This month T-SQL Tuesday topic – ‘Setting learning goals for 2018‘ is an apt and timely one. It is the perfect time to look back & identify things which you could have done differently – and most importantly set targets and goals for the year ahead.

2017 was a great year for me. I had set up goals for myself at the beginning of the year and ended up achieving much more than what I had planned for. I guess the key was having clarity on your goals – and then dedicating time & committing to it.
This upcoming year I will plan to do the same. In fact writing this blog will hopefully be my source of motivation throughout the year and it will help keep a check on my progress.  I would like to focus on the below 3 areas primarily –

Getting started with Cloud Computing

This is something which I have been wanting to get into for some time now. Putting this at the top of the list will ensure that I dedicate time learning about Cloud Technologies and get proficient in it.

Complete some Technical Certifications

I have realized that Certifications require a good amount of focus and dedicated prep time. This year I took the first step and cleared Exam 70-461 Querying Microsoft SQL Server 2012/2014.

I plan to complete couple of more technical certifications in 2018.

Keep learning and have it reflected in your Blogs and Speaking Engagements

This year I had a great run with more than 20 speaking engagements and 75 blogposts.
I plan to push myself and set the bar high in 2018 from blogging perspective. Over the last 3-4 months, I increased my blogging frequency and noticed a steep increase in my website traffic and feedback from the community – that was very satisfying and a good motivation at the same time. I would love to continue doing that.
